Advocating the message of peaceĀ and positive thoughts through history books at school level, Magsaysay Award winner Kiran Bedi today said texts reflecting hatred and revenge should beĀ withdrawn and proposed a rating system for countries, which promote ill-will among children.
Referring to the tilt brought in the history text books with the changing regime in different countries, Bedi said all the countries across the globe should be rated for promoting hatred and violence.
“Books sow the seeds of new voices, so it is very important for it to be a right voice,” she said.
Bedi said children as a new generation are founding pillars of the world’s future structure, so the thoughts they develop right from their school classes should be in the right direction.
Speaking at the inaugural session of the World Congress on “giving children a voice” in the capital today, Bedi said “We should nurture values of sharing and giving in them and not the feeling of hatred and violence.
Social workers and activists from more than 25 countries participated in the inaugural session of the five-day Congress organised by the social organisation Service and Research Foundation of Asia on Family and Culture (SERFAC).
“We make children to pray to the god with a prayer, but what is more important is to make them live on the prayer and enable them to take forward the message of peace and tolerance,” Bedi said.
Bedi called for an united effort to form groups of children at international level and enable them to express their feeling toward leaving the hatred behind. The children should be encouraged to write as how they feel about these issues, she added.
“All the History textbooks across the world should be collected and searched throughly and the countries should be rated accordingly for promoting message of hatred and violence,” Bedi said.
Accordingly, the countries should be awarded induces like Hatred Promotion Index or Anger Promotion Index, she proposed.
