Omar to be youngest J&K CM

Omar Abdullah is set to become the 11th Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, after being sworn in today (January 5). At 38, he will be the youngest Chief Minister ever to rule the state.
Omar will take oath as the head of a National Conference-Congress coalition government. There are indications that there will be a six-member ministry without a deputy CM from the Congress.
Omar Abdullah said that he is confident to deliver in the state and meet the expectations of the people. The swearing-in ceremony which will be held at General Zorawar Singh stadium in Jammu University will be attended by Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
Meanwhile, patron of the National Conference Farooq Abdullah has said he will take charge of the National Conference as party president, since his son Omar will now have to concentrate on running the State governement.
All the former chief ministers of the state including G M Sadiq, Syed Mir Qasim, Sheikh Abdullah, G M Shah, Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Ghulam Nabi Azad were elder to him, officials sources said.
Of these Chief Ministers, Omar’s father Farooq and his grandfather Sheikh Abdullah served more than one term in office. This distinction was earlier held by Farooq Abdullah who was the youngest Chief Minister of the state when he took over the reins of the state for the first time at the age of 46 years on 21st October 1982.
His grandfather Sheikh Abdullah became Chief Minister at the age of 69, but prior to that he was Prime Minister at the age of 41.
Similarly, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Azad became chief ministers at the ages of 66 and 56, respectively, while Sadiq, Mir Qasim and Shah assumed the top office after they were past 55 years of age.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan have been ranked among the 50 most powerful people in the world.
Pakistan army chief Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who controls the the country’s nuclear weapons, is placed 20th on the list of the global “power elite” at the beginning of 2009 .
Obama, who scripted history by becoming the first black-American to be voted to the White House, is followed by Chinese President Hu Jintao, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, German Chancellor Angela Markel and powerful Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
